ah well.. that's because everyone goes through the same thing... :)
i think that the entrance process is nerve-wrecking.
now that 3 years have past since then. if you equate our memories like a sift, the essence that remains of the entire experience is fun :)

Hey Reza,

Congratulations on making it to the interview stage. Hope that you'll be successful.

No, the mother tongue factor should not be a hindrance for you in getting a scholarship. After all, they want your brains, not just your language skills.

You'll have to find a balance though, because from what I've heard, my seniors who gave the tutor SPM std of malay didn't do as well as when they wrote PMR std malay... You'll have to figure that out for yourself when you are there. And that was in 2005.

Anyway, about languages, I don't think that any Malaysians should worry. For once, our education did something right. Apart from our English stds, we've definitely have a solid grounding for our mother tongue to be able to do well in Singapore :)

I just went for the interview and am in eager anticipation for the results. I so want to study in Singapore!

But adrian I guess the rules would vary from JC to JC (im a boarding school student XD)

Just a last question though : Would taking BM as your mother tongue language (because you can't speak Mandarin/Tamil) hinder your chances at getting the scholarship?
Thanks in advance!

Hello. I have taken the test for this scholarship last 2 months and am currently waiting for the results of the test which might come anytime now.

My parents are really keen on sending me there as they stress that the education standard there is way better than Malaysia. I am dubious however, as I am worried that I could not adapt there.

Naturally, Ive got tons of questions to ask you about the scholarship and stuff. Firstly, were all the hostels clean/comfortable? Were the people nice? Were the wardens/hostel rules very strict? How late is the curfew? Were you given any leisure time?

These are just a few questions that are running around on my mind. Hope you can answer them by replying to my email! If possible, please add my msn as well as I would like to know more about the scholarship.

thanks!

Hey Kaileen,

Firstly, congratulations! I'm gonna keep this short as I will be busy with upcoming exams.

Just to inform you, I took the test about 9 years ago and my circumstance was very different in that I sat for a school-based scholarship test that was independent from the ASEAN scholarship. That said, from what I heard, there are 3 components: English, Maths and IQ. The IQ test is standardised, so doing a few Mensa-like questions should help you be mentally prepared for what to expect. Improve on your English and Maths skills by reading and practicing.

It would be advisable to probably get some Singapore-based maths papers (O levels, if possible), to get a feel of the paper. I think that you'll find the standards much higher and paper slightly harder than the Malaysian-syllabus. That said, do not despair if you find that you're not able to do most of the papers. Most importantly is to score in your English paper as I think that it is highly significant in the panel's consideration. I have no tips on how to prepare for this, apart from reading, expanding your vocabulary, and probably think of topics to write about. I think that there will be an essay component, to put your writing skills to the test.

I hope that this helps!

All the best!

Cheers!
